The Laurel sewing contest

Today I want to tell you about a great contest that Sarai from Colette patterns has just launched in honor of her new pattern "Laurel".

Laurel is a very great pattern, it's like a canvas for your ideas. It's a basic shape dress that you can turn into a blouse with or without sleeves, a dress with or without sleeves, with pencil or fluffy bottom, I think you can even turn it into o pencil skirt if you are a not so novice seamstress. All in all it's a great pattern for those who are beginners and also for those who want to take their ideas and designs a step further.
Everyone can enter the contest, there are 6 categories you can choose from or enter for all of them and if you look at it the other way, even if you don't win something you'll still have a new addition to your wardrobe.
Ohhh, I forgot about the prizes.....there are some great and big prizes and it's definitely worth it.
You can go over to Sarai's post for more details about the contest, the categories and the prizes.

I am also announcing that I am going to take part of the contest so if you'll see fewer posts from me you'll know why :D. And knowing me, I want to enter in all the categories and I hope that I will pull it of. More categories, more chances to win something....
I already got my pattern, I put it together yesterday and today I will do a muslin for the fit and for future alterations.

So stay tuned. I will post something as soon as I can.
Until then,
Love and kisses,

DIY sewing helpers

Hy guys, sorry for being AWOL these days but Pinterest got me hooked. I found some good inspiration and some new things to do.
I found out that you can make your own tailor's ham and sausage, and I did mine. Here's for the road to professional sewing!!!!!!
A tailor's ham is used when pressing curved seams (ex. bust seam) and the tailor's sausage is for sliping into a sleeve to pres open the seam (at any point where your seam won't lay flat).

Rainbow makeup

Hellowwww (waving hand),

New follow button

As many of you bloggers, when I heard that Google Reader will be stopped somewhere in June or July I knew that it was the time to switch over to something new. I didn't used Bloglovin' until this week but it's much like Google Reader but better: it has a "scroll to top" button (hurray) and I've come to like it better.
So I added a "Follow this blog with Bloglovin' " button. I didn't lose the follow button for Google Reader but I will take that down when Google Reader will be no more.

That's kinda all for now and until next time,
Love and kisses.

From me to YOU... : makeup

So the inspiration for today is .... makeup.
I found some nice ones on pinterest and I thought of sharing them with you. So here they are:

Black office pants

First, I'm so sorry that I wasn't in the blogging world for a few days....but I have a reason and it's a good one but not for me: I've been down with a cold and finally it passed.

And that being said here is a pair of pants that I made.

Gray glossy jacket

I made this jacket to wear with the previous pants (here) and because I had and still have some fabric left. I think I will make a skirt too and so to make a complete suit.

Here are the pictures and you will see that I also modified this pattern a little.

Gray glossy pants

I don't know why I like to wear pants...oh wait I do know: I look good in office style pants but not in office style skirts (because in my opinion an office skirt is below the knees). but I look ok in short skirts :D

So here is a pair of pants good for the office but have a little twist (because as you noticed I like to do things classy but not so classy, you know, with a twist).

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy

I don't even know what to write because I'm practically doing the dance of joy......
......
......
......
Ok. Now I'm calmer. So the reason for my happiness right now is......"drums please": my minty dress got featured on the front page of Burdastyle.com on the "Featured Member Projects" section. I ALWAYS wanted to get on the first page of Burda.
And here is the proof:

Disregard the open tabs I have in crome or my bookmarks or anything because I am so eagerly to share my joy with you I'm not even going to edit the printscreen.

I'm now going to share my joy on facebook too so,
Love and kisses,

Funny cat

Today I want to introduce you THE cat Aris (short for Aristotel). It's my sister-in-law's cat and it's big and restless.

Pencil skirt

I've always wanted a pencil skirt that looked good on me but I never found one in the shops. Then burda 2/2011 came out an a pattern caught my eye. It was not your ordinary pencil skirt, it had a twist and I fell in love.

Favorite pants

I really, really love this pants. I think I wore them all summer last year. They are soooo comfy and were easy to make.

From me to YOU... : nails

I keep seeing on other blogs little series for things to blog about and that inspired me: I'm starting my own little series and it's called "From me to YOU...". It will be about things I see, I love, I want to own and to do, and a lot of inspiration.

And so this is the first post of this series and it will be about nails and nail art.
If you are a new reader you may not now that I have a little passion about nail art and I love to keep my nails healthy and beautiful. Here is a post with the nail art I did in the past.

So here is the inspiration for today.

it also has a tutorial. I love the tutorials at TBD

Remake: from white to mint

Hello, hello
Do you remember my angel dress (here it is), well after staring at it in the closet for almost a year I decided that I don't have where to wear it so I made a few changes and now I love it, love it, love it.

Ruffles, ruffles, ruffles

I made this skirt when the ruffles were in the trend. I did found a DIY video on youtube but I really don't know where on youtube. But it's fairly simple: a big rectangle with elastic on top and ruffles sewn in 3 rows.

That's the hubby and the pics are from our honeymoon.

Well, until next time.
Love and kisses,

White and blue balloon

Well, it's not quite a balloon, it's a dress. But it inflates as a balloon when the wind is blowing and it's so hard to get a good picture of it...

Anyhow here are a few little things that caught my eye today...
