Fabric flower tutorial

Hey guys....
I promised you a while ago (here) a tutorial on a fabric flower tutorial.....
So here it goes :D

You will need: a hot glue gun, a pair of scissors, a pen, scraps of fabric for the petals, some jeans fabric or thick fabric for the back of the flower, a lighter, matching thread, and 2 circles – one as big as you want your flower to be (mine was approx. 6.5 cm in diameter) and one a little smaller for the back of the flower (mine was approx, 4.5 cm in diameter).

Cut 20 big circles for your petals. You can pin the fabric so you can cut more circles at a time.

Once you have all your 20 petals you will need to do something to stop the edges from fraying. You can use your serger, zig-zag stitch, or you can choose the easy way like I did: burn the edges with a lighter.
Warning: be carefull not to burn your fingers or the fabric. The chiffon I used was poliester and it curled and melt when I was burning the edges. So be carefull.

Now that you have your petals it’s time to cut the back part. So cut 2 of the little circle from thicker fabric (I used some old jeans) and a little “strap” for the boby pin, headband, safety pin or whatever you will want to use for your flower. Burn the edges for all 3 pieces.

Draw on one of your back circle 4 lines as shown. You will sew your petals on each one of the lines, so you will have 8 petals.

Take two big circles to form a petal. Just fold them together once in half and then in half again. They don’t have to be perfect. That’s the charm of it.

Sew the point of the petal with a couple of stitches just to keep it from unfolding,

then sew it on one of the lines from the back circle.

Do this until you’ve sew all your 8 petals. You’ll have some dificulties when the petals will start to gather and you won’t see the lines anymore or you won’t see wich line has a petal and wich doesn’t. But you’ll get it right in the end.

It’ll look something like this. Now you have 4 more circles for you middle petal to cover up all the stitches.

Now take your remaining 4 circles and fold all 4 like the petals. So you’ll have 4 circles facing instead of 2 like the other petals. Now just sew it in the middle and you’re almost done.

This is how it will look from the back.

Now just glue the other little circle on the back to cover up your stitches. When the hot glue will cool down it will make this back piece a little stiff so it will keep its shape.

Now just glue the little “strap” for the hair pin, but only at the edges. You can always sew it to be sure that it won’t fall.

And you are done. Just put the attach the boby pin, put it in your hair and work it! J

I hope you find this useful.
Hugs,
